A day at the Gorges d'Heric

Going the the gorges d'Heric is always a real pleasure as it's beautiful and hugely striking.
In Summer  we like spending the day near its rock pools, some very wide and deep enough to swim and jump in. It's certainly,in my view, as nice if not nicer than a day at the beach. For once, it's less crowded especially if you get after the third bridge and with area of shade it's quite nice to snooze near the river while kids jump about in the water.
Le gouffre du cerisier
Le Gouffre du Cerisier is just before the fourth bridge. There is a huge cherry tree ( cerisier) overlooking a big pool deep enough to jump in and swim  and with a "beach" for the little one to play about.

And we're off

There is also a big pool that can be jumped in by the road , not for the faint hearted but hugely rewarding!

Mountain goats, dragonflies  and the "cygales" can be seen about ...Although we only found a skull for the mountain goat!

Les Gorges d'Heric are approximatively 35 mms away from the house , get there early (around 10-11h)  to get a good spot . Carpark  is at the bottom ( 2 €) , any cars parked "illegally" get fined so beware. Then, there is a long concrete route up , the best spots are after the third bridge . The Village of Heric is approximatively 2 hours up. There is also a refreshment shack with ice cream or a bar in the village.
